Accomplishment: Inspiring local home-schooled high school and McQuaid students by hosting a visit on campus May 14, 2013. Brian McIntyre and Per Adamson, led the students and their teachers through a variety of optics and science presentations, expanding their educational frame of reference, appreciation of science, and providing an in-house introduction to the opportunities available at the University of Rochester.
Benefit to the Hajim School: Acting as a volunteer ambassador for the University of Rochester, and especially the Hajim School, Brian's activities provide inspiration for students to pursue math and science. It motivates future potential alumni of the UR. The benefit of planting seeds at this age cannot be underestimated. Hajim SEAS reaps benefits from Brian's outreach based on his experience and expertise as director of the Nanosystems Center (URnano), in teaching and managing electron microscopy and as an adjunct faculty member in the Institute of Optics.
