John has been working with Dottie Welch to implement an automated system to transfer information from student records of the registrar into a student database that Dottie developed for academic advising. Previously, Dottie laboriously entered all of the data by hand. This was manageable when enrollments were lower, but with the increased enrollment in BME, the task was becoming prohibitively time consuming.
Benefit to the Hajim School
The new tool is an enormous time saver for organizing student information into a database for academic advising. John's work will make it possible to maintain Dottie's system in spite of ever increasing student enrollments. This system has been essential for advisors in BME who average about 20 advisees per faculty member. It is a complex degree, but in a single page the advisor can see how a student is doing and what courses they will need to graduate.
