Mary Gillette

Date: June 5, 2014
Nominated by: Gayle Hurlbutt

Accomplishment: Mary plays a very important role in the management of the chair's program project grant. One of those key roles is assembling key information for the annual progress report. This year, Mary was able to pull all the information together in a minimal amount of time (2 weeks!!) causing many late nights and long days. The progress report was completed and submitted one day early with zero corrections necessary prior to sending to NIH.

Benefit to the Hajim School: Mary's efforts are going to keep the project in good stead with NIH allowing funding for the next fiscal year of the grant to be awarded timely. This is of huge benefit for not only the department but also the Hajim School as several faculty and several staff members are supported from these funds.

Accomplishment: Mary successfully coordinated the Department's External Advisory Board meeting that was held 5/28/2014 in Goergen Hall. Coordinating this meeting is exceedingly difficult due to the number and caliber of people currently sitting on the board. She worked many hours ensuring travel arrangements made were agreeable with schedules; ensuring rooms were secured and set up appropriately; and arranging for catering needs (to include special diet requirements for guests).

Benefit to the Hajim School: The External Advisory Board is a key element to BME and our mission. The input we receive is typically quite helpful as the EAB is looks at our department from the "outside in" vs. our view from the inside out. Mary's contact is the first "working" contact most EAB members have with the department, her first impressions are typically what sets up the members' expectations of their visit; so her cheerfulness and can-do attitudes are extremely important.
