In answer to inquiries from fellow graduate students and CS adviser regarding unusual behavior of a CS grad student, Niki responded quickly and professionally. She contacted University Health Services and escorted the student over to the UHS building and explained the situation. Niki showed compassion and was able to engage the student into sharing his family phone number with Niki to update the family and provide additional assistance for the student. She contacted the family and followed through with visits to the student. Niki has great communication skills and works well in all situations with students!
Benefit to the Hajim School
The student received much needed medical attention and is now on medical leave for a few months. The student is expected to return in the fall as Niki was able to communicate a solution that would still allow the student to complete his degree program. Niki is actively engaged with the Engineering community both on and off-campus and is willing to explore opportunities to support her students.
