Accomplishment: Dr. Herman has consistently displayed flexibility and dedication in helping students who are struggling in math. Professor Herman is very responsive to student needs. He has a great appreciation for when immediate action must be taken in the best interest of the student.
Many of our underrepresented students attended high schools that did not sufficiently prepare them for the rigors of college mathematics. Professor Herman has not only gone to great lengths to ensure that these student have the resources they need to excel, he empowers these students to feel successful and treats them with respect.
Professor Herman consistently shares information on student concerns and successes and this partnership has greatly helped the Hajim School.
Benefit to the Hajim School: The partnership between the Mathematics Department and the Hajim School Dean's Office has helped to implement the placement system, which has decreased the percentage of students who cannot progress to the next section of the calculus sequence, thereby increasing retention in engineering. This will benefit the Hajim School for years to come.
He is a pleasure to work with and is very deserving of this recognition.
