Weekly Memo

Dear members of the Hajim School community:

Congratulations to computer science majors Robin Miller and Francis Ferraro, finalists for the Computing Research Association’s Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award for 2011. Sam White also received an honorable mention. The award recognizes exemplary work in computer science research, and it’s wonderful to see so many names from the Hajim community earning this recognition. In fact, only Princeton had more students on the lists of winners, finalists, and honorable mentions!

Undergraduates should take note of the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York Scholarship Program for prospective consulting engineers. Students entering the final years of their programs are eligible to apply by the December 17, 2010 deadline.  Information and the application are available here.

Sophomores and juniors, please consider participating in the Industry Practicum Co-op Program, which allows students to take on fully paid internships in their field of study. Students have the option of participating during the second semester of their junior years or the first semester of their senior years, in combination with the contiguous summer. Learn more here, or by contacting Hajim School academic advisor Kelly Johnson at kelly.johnson@rochester.edu.

And, as many of you know, I’ve been teaching a loudspeaker design course this semester which has been a lot of fun for me, and hopefully equally fun and rewarding for the students. Here’s a link to a video that was shot in the shop, where you can see some of the students building their speakers and testing them. Take a look, if you have a couple of minutes!

Sincerely,

Robert L. Clark
