Weekly Memo

Dear members of the Hajim School community:

Congratulations to senior Isthier Chaudhury, a chemical engineering and Chinese double major, for his participation in a panel discussion at Howard University in Washington, DC on January 19. The panel discussion, attended by First Lady Michele Obama, addressed the importance of exchange programs between American and Chinese universities, and coincided with Chinese President Hu Jintao’s visit to the U.S. Isthier spent his junior year at Peking University in Beijing and was the recipient of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, an award sponsored by the Department of State. Thanks, Isthier, for representing Rochester and the Hajim School in such an important forum!

The application deadline of February 1 is quickly approaching for the Master of Science in Technical Entrepreneurship and Management (TEAM) degree program. Please note that there is no application fee, and members of the University of Rochester community qualify for merit-based scholarship opportunities. Learn more about TEAM by scheduling an informational appointment with program administrator, Andrea Galati at andrea.galati@rochester.edu or 276-3500.

Sophomores should consider applying for the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Clarkson University. The summer program, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, features the theme “Advancing Sustainable Systems and Environmental Technologies to Serve Humanity”. The intense 10 weeks would be a great way to build your resume, meet colleagues, and prepare for graduate-level work. The deadline for the program is March 1, 2011.

Students interested in a paid practicum in their fields should stop by the information session for the Hajim School Co-op Program, on January 28 from 2-3 p.m. in Lattimore 306A. More information about the program is available here, or you can contact Kelly Johnson at kelly.johnson@rochester.edu.

Sincerely,

Robert L. Clark
