Laboratory for Laser Energetics Research Associate
The University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics is seeking a PhD level individual in optics, physics, or engineering to join the System Science team charged with characterizing and optimizing the performance of the world-class Omega and Omega-EP laser facilities. Omega is a 60-beam solid-state laser system capable of delivering 30kJ, nanosecond, UV pulses to a target. Omega EP is a short-pulse laser system capable of delivering pulses of up to 1PW power (700J in 700fs).
Candidates must have performed experimental research in optical systems, preferably solid-state laser systems or laser-based optical systems. A comprehensive knowledge of optical physics and the ability to develop computer-based data analysis tools are required. The ideal candidate should have good engineering skills and should be a motivated self-starter who can manage multiple projects and priorities within a fast paced dynamic environment. The System Science group interacts on a daily basis with a wide variety of technicians, engineers, scientists, and customers and thus excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and a demonstrated ability to be effective in a team environment are mandatory. U.S. citizenship is desirable but not required.
