Optics Technician

The Optics Technician will work in a high-tech environment and be responsible for assembly, alignment, and testing of high-quality optical and laser systems.

PRIMARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assemble, align, test, repair, and rework optical components and systems
  • Set up and calibrate lab equipment and test fixtures
  • Follow all established manufacturing and testing procedures, including documentation
  • Identify weaknesses in areas of responsibility and provide suggestions for improvement
  • Become proficient in a wide range of test equipment and instruments
  • Record data and write test reports in an approved format
  • Become familiar with customer requirements, test setups and fixtures
  • Maintain laboratory files, drawings, and data in accordance with ISO requirements
  • Interface with all other groups within the company as necessary to support lab activities
  • Learns current and future procedures as required and be responsive to training

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • No specific education required
  • Associate Degree in a technical field and 2-3 years as an optics technician preferred
  • Clean room experience preferred
  • Experience handling strong magnets preferred
  • Experience handling lenses, mirrors, laser diodes, and other optical components preferred
  • Experience with micrometers, calipers, and other optical tools and systems preferred
  • Ability to read basic engineering drawings preferred
  • A demonstrated attitude of cooperation and a desire to continue learning Optical Technology
  • Must have effective written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be familiar with typical word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software
  • Unrestricted right to work in United States required
  • Physical Requirements – must be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodation:
    • Walking, sitting, standing
    • Use hands to hold and manipulate small objects as well as operate a computer
    • Talking/hearing to communicate
    • Ability to see and manipulate small items and work with delicate parts required

  • Hourly rate commensurate with experience
