Grad Student Daniel Nikolov Wins the Link Foundation Fellowship

April 4, 2016

Daniel Nikolov, a PhD student in Optics, has won a prestigious Link Foundation Fellowship in Modeling, Simulation, and Training for the 2016-17 academic year.  Photo of Daniel NikolovDaniel, who works with Prof. Jannick Rolland, is developing a computation and visualization tool for optical simulations called Eikonal+. “This software has the potential to enable the design, manufacturing and testing of a new generation of optical systems,” Daniel explains.  “For instance, Eikonal+ could be used for a design of a compact spectrometer for medical imaging or an augmented reality head-worn display.”  The Link awards were created to foster advanced level research, to enable Ph.D. students the freedom to work on their research full time, and to disseminate the results of that research through conferences, journals, and other publications.
