Doyley Among Invited Speakers for IEEE IUS 2021

IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium 2021 logoProfessor Marvin Doyley, along with colleagues from around the world, is an invited speaker at the IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), which will take place virtually from September 11 - 16, 2021. "A Robust and Fast Method for 2-D Shear Wave Speed Calculation"

Congratulations to Professor Marvin Doyley and PhD candidate Reem Mislati on the publication of the journal article titled "A robust and fast method for 2-D shear wave speed calculation."  Dr. Hyoung-Ki Lee is first author of the manuscript which describes his work as a postdoctoral associate in Professor Doyley's lab. Dr. Lee is currently a research fellow at the Mayo Clinic. Other co-authors include Donggeon Kong and Kiwan Choi of Samsung Electronics. This article appears in the July issue of IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control and can be found here.

NSF Awards REU Proposal Submitted by Doyley and Luo

Congratulations to PI Marvin Doyley and co-PI Jiebo Luo who received National Science Foundation (NSF) funding for a 3-year REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program. This REU site titled "Imaging in Medicine and Biology for Underrepresented Minorities" highlights a signature area of research strength at UR and will be able to draw mentors from the Rochester Center for Biomedical Ultrasound, the Institute of Optics, the Goergen Institute for Data Science, and the Del Monte Institute of Neuroscience. The award demonstrates the unique research collaborations that are possible here because of the close proximity of our Medical Center to the River Campus and helps address a key priority to create a more diverse student body and learning environment, particularly in STEM fields. The REU centers around three key areas of research: ultrasonic imaging, computational imaging, and optical imaging. The program will also include a MATLAB programming boot camp that teaches students image processing techniques and will help students develop critical skills needed to be successful in STEM graduate education, such as Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) preparation, time management, and oral and written presentation skills. Ten students will be selected to participate annually in this opportunity, beginning in the summer of 2022.
