James Fienup elected member of National Academy of Engineering

Dr. James Fienup , Robert E. Hopkins Professor of Optics, has been eleceted new member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) for his development and applications of phase retrieval algorithms.

A quote from NAE's news release on February 9, 2012:

"Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature, and to the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."

This is the great honor for Professor Fienup, The Institute of Optics, the Hajim School, and the University. Congratulations for his outstanding achievement! 

There will be a celebratory reception on Monday, February 20, in Goergen 101 at 4pm, immediately following the Optics colloquium.
