The problem with this approach is that when the code from the RPLidar imported to the program to run the car, there was a function called to the RPLidar and never left the RPLidar function call to execute the rest of the program. Many attempts for a trigger call were made, but with out success.  <\/li><li>Connecting an ultrasonic sensor would have measured thee distance from the car to any object in the room, however this did not work because the hat on the Raspberry Pi blocked the GOP pins, which needed to be connected to the ultrasonic sensor in order to run. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/senior-design-day\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-05-at-11.07.51-PM-1024x855.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-849\" width=\"512\" height=\"428\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/senior-design-day\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-05-at-11.07.51-PM-1024x855.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/senior-design-day\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-05-at-11.07.51-PM-300x251.png 300w, https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/senior-design-day\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-05-at-11.07.51-PM-768x641.png 768w, https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/senior-design-day\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-05-at-11.07.51-PM.png 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><figcaption>This is our third approach to use an ultrasonic sensor for object detection, we used the breadboard for a voltage division from 5V to 3.3V to accommodate the raspberry pi<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><\/p><p>Possible Alternative Approaches<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" id=\"block-97190321-4933-4ed3-b3d4-e50a59f4774b\"><li>A different approach would be to get the RPLidar program to extract the angle and distance.
