Although secure quantum communication can be achieved over short distances with classical sources, single-photon sources are essential for <strong>long-distance quantum communication<\/strong> due to losses in communication channels. Using single-photon sources, quantum repeaters can be used to transmit signals over long distances. For <strong>quantum repeater protocols, single photons must be indistinguishable<\/strong>. Photon indistinguishability is <strong>hard to achieve at room temperature. <\/strong>Many single-photon emitters are in the <strong>visible spectral range<\/strong>, and so narrow resonances must be achieved in that range as well.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:33% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/senior-design-day\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/nl-2018-01415a_0005.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-314 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Out of all the plasmonic nanostructures, the highest increase in emission rate and enhancement in fluorescence intensity were achieved using <strong>metal plasmonic patch nanoantennas<\/strong>, in which an emitter is placed in a nanoscale dielectric gap between a metal mirror and a metal nanoparticle. <strong>Plasmonic nanoantenna array metasurfaces<\/strong> which product narrow resonances may be used to make the linewidth of the photons narrow. <strong>Plasmonic patch nanoantennas as elements of such arrays<\/strong> can both enhance the emission rates of the photons and cause the linewidth to be narrow. The goal of my research is to model and investigate plasmonic nanoantenna array metasurfaces with narrow resonances in the visible range, as well as investigate plasmonic nanoparticles which can be used for nanopatch antennas.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Objective<\/h2>\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Modeling and investigating <strong>plasmonic nanoantenna array metasurfaces<\/strong> and <strong>colloidal plasmonic nanoparticles <\/strong>towards creation of <strong>indistinguishable single photons.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><b>Numerical modeling <\/b>of plasmonic nanoantenna array metasurface with <b>very narrow <\/b>lattice <b>resonance<\/b> in <b>visible<\/b> spectral range.<\/li>\n<li>Examination of colloidal plasmonic nanoparticles, nanoantenna array metasurfaces, and emitter nanocrystals with <b>atomic force<\/b> <b>microscopy<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Fluorescent and spectral measurements <\/b>of colloidal plasmonic nanoparticles,
