Focusing on achieving a 100\u03bcm resolution of the polymer deposition and control of the z-axis will allow researchers to accurately and precisely deposit aqueous fluids on these sensors or on other small, high-precision devices.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"alignfull wp-block-heading\">Customer Needs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Product needs to be able to place polymer solutions on a small chip.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Resolution of 100\u03bcm<\/li><li>Precise X, Y, and Z axis control.<\/li><li>Design compatibility with aqueous solutions and varying types of alcohols.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Product that can place the polymers on the chips through adhesion forces rather than mechanical forces.<\/li><li>Level printing surface<\/li><li>Fluid deposition volume accuracy<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Customer Wants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Does not need to be fast, but could be relatively quick in future designs. In this design, the fluid deposition plate would move along the z-axis. This prototype tested a timing belt and pulley system for controlling the axes. Also, for this design, the syringe pump was not directly connected to the device. Very complex: z-axis is connected to the x-axis which is connected to the y-axis. This prototype would have the syringe pump directly connected to the device. This prototype also tested a timing belt system for controlling the axes. We determined from this prototype that we would be better off spending our time modifying a 3D printer or CNC machine instead of designing everything from scratch.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-coblocks-accordion-item\"><details open><summary class=\"wp-block-coblocks-accordion-item__title\">Prototype 3 &#8211; Final Design <\/summary><div class=\"wp-block-coblocks-accordion-item__content\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"654\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/senior-design-day\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/183182659_209634437394572_8512342720214752522_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1787 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/senior-design-day\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/183182659_209634437394572_8512342720214752522_n.jpg 654w, https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/senior-design-day\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/183182659_209634437394572_8512342720214752522_n-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 654px) 100vw, 654px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Prototype 3: Simple and time-efficient. <\/strong>For this prototype, we modified a CNC machine. This prototype is designed such that the fluid deposition plate moves along the y-axis. This prototype uses a lead-screw design for controlling the axes.
