Biography

Commander Andrew D’Ambrosio is a native of Amity Harbor, New York. He attended the State University of New York at Oneonta, graduating with a Bachelor degree in Mathematics, and earned his commission through Officer Candidate School in January 2003. Following flight training, he was designated a Naval Flight Officer in June 2004, then reported to the “Vikings” of VAQ-129 for fleet replacement training in the EA-6B Prowler.

Commander D’Ambrosio joined the “Yellow Jackets” of VAQ-138 in 2005 for his first fleet assignment, and deployed to Fifth Fleet in 2007 onboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He then returned to VAQ-129 in 2008 for his first shore assignment, where he served as a Flight Instructor, and transitioned to the EA-18G Growler.

His next fleet assignment was with Carrier Air Wing Seventeen in 2012, where he served as the staff Air Wing Electronic Warfare Operations Officer, and deployed to Fifth Fleet in 2012 onboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Commander D’Ambrosio then returned to VAQ-138 for his fleet department head tour in 2014, and completed two expeditionary, land-based deployments in 2014 and 2016 to the Pacific Command Area of Responsibility, in support of Seventh Fleet operations.

Commander D’Ambrosio attended the Naval Postgraduate School in 2017, where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Financial Management in 2018.

His most recent fleet assignment was onboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) in 2018, where he served as the Air Operations Officer, and deployed to Sixth Fleet in 2018, in support of the inaugural execution of Dynamic Force Employment, followed by a second, fifth, and sixth deployment in 2019-2020, in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

Commander D’Ambrosio has accumulated over 2,600 flight hours and 330 carrier arrested landings, and received the Major General William A. Cohen Strike Leadership Award in 2004. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various personal, unit, and service awards. Commander D’Ambrosio is married, and has three children.
