Biography
LT Justin Smith was born in Flemington, New Jersey and raised in Trappe, Pennsylvania. After finishing High School, he studied Mechanical Engineering at Villanova University on an NROTC Scholarship and was a member of Whiskey Company. LT Smith graduated Magna Cum Lade.
LT Smith attended Nuclear Power School in Charleston, SC, graduating in Spring of 2022 with Honors. Following NNPTC, he attended Prototype in Charleston before attending Submarine Officer Basic Course (SOBC). After graduating, LT Smith reported to USS NEW MEXICO (SSN 779) in May of 2023. LT Smith qualified as an Engineer Officer in July of 2024.
Upon reporting to NEW MEXICO, LT Smith served as the Reactor Control Assistant for one year, rapidly earning his Submarine Warfare qualification ahead of schedule. LT Smith was hand selected as Assistant Engineer to lead the team during deployment and Operation Reactor Safeguards Exam (ORSE) preparations. He spearheaded the planning, coordination, and execution of NEW MEXICO’s post deployment ORSE, ensuring the ship earned Above Average marks. After a stellar performance, he was selected to fill the critical role of Assistant Operations Officer and coordinated Joint Operations with Carrier Strike Group Two and multiple missions vital to National Security alongside Naval Special Warfare Group Eight. LT Smith completed two deployments to the EUCOM Area of Responsibility as Mission Contact Manager, ensuring expert execution of all tasking.
LT Smith spends his free time traveling with his wife and playing instruments. He currently has orders to serve as a Reserve Officer Training Corp Officer at Rochester University.
