Ian Davison in Sydney
"Relaxing on the beach was extraordinary"
Ian Davison, a junior in computer science, wanted to “experience something different than my college life at Rochester.”
Did he ever!
“Relaxing on the beach in the Daintree Rainforest was extraordinary,” Davison recalls. “One of the most beautiful places I have ever been.”
This is one of Davison’s favorite memories of studying abroad in Australia during the Fall 2014 semester. He attended Macqaurie University in Sydney, where he took two courses to meet requirements for his computer science major here.
“I wanted to know what it was like to live in a different country for an extended period of time, what studying and social life was like in a University in a different part of the world,” Davison said.
It was “far easier” to arrange than he expected, Davison added. “The process was really not difficult. It just required getting some applications done and forms signed on time.”
“It was extraordinarily beneficial. It is quite the experience simply living somewhere else that is not the U.S. I would encourage everyone to go abroad, because it is an amazing experience.”
