International Experience Scholarships
The Hajim School awards scholarships of $500 to help its students defray the costs of studying abroad, including program tuition, room and board, books, local transportation, insurance and international airfare.
"International experience is critically important in the educational and career development of Hajim students, but it can also require a substantial financial investment," the Dean's Office explains. "The Hajim International Experience Scholarship is designed to encourage the student population that studies and interns abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints."
The Hajim Deans Office International Experience Scholarship supports Hajim School students who have been traditionally under-represented in education abroad, including, but not limited to, students with high financial need, and students with diverse ethnic backgrounds. Award recipients are chosen by a competitive selection process.
The following types of experience qualify for this scholarship:
- All UR Study Abroad Programs
- International Research Opportunities
- International Internships
- Short Term faculty led programs
To help expand the impact of the Hajim International Experience Scholarship, all Hajim International Scholars are required to carry out a Service Project upon their return from abroad to help inspire other students to pursue their own experiences abroad and to promote international education. "Just as important and life-changing as time abroad can be for a student, so too can sharing that experience be life changing for others," the Dean's Office notes.
The Hajim School has set a goal of increasing student participation in study abroad to 25 percent, to better prepare its students for careers in an increasingly global economy, and to give them an edge in applying for internships and jobs.
