CSB 603, Immersive Audio Lab

What happens in this laboratory?

Students and professors can use Computer Studies Building (CSB) 603 Immersive Audio Lab for spatial audio research in binaural audio, Ambisonics, wave field synthesis, and object-based audio. The 24-speaker spatial audio system can be used to play the recordings made with Ambisonic microphones. Students can also design and play immersive computer music for the system. We plan to build a 64-speaker system that can play Ambisonic recordings up to the 7th order.

When do students use this lab?

Students use this lab when taking the following courses:

  • AME 240/MUSC240/ECE478: Revolutions in Sound: Artistic and Technical Evolutions of Sound Recording
  • AME 196: Interactive Computer Music
  • AME 262/ECE475: Audio Software Design I
  • ECE 439: Electroacoustics, Audio Reproduction, and Spatial Audio

Audio and Music Engineering Program

The Audio and Music Engineering (AME) Program combines studies in engineering and applied sciences with music and audio production to give students a technically detailed, design-based education in the field of audio, music and sonic engineering.

The University of Rochester’s AME program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
