What happens in the machine shop?

The River Campus Machine Shop is a professionally staffed shop run by an experienced toolmaker. The shop provides services to make parts and systems, improve the manufacturability of designs, and help students and faculty find additional resources for projects that are out of the shop’s scope.

The shop contains a range of equipment including mill, lathe, metal shearing, punching and cutting, sheet metal fabrication, grinding, 3 and 4 axis CNC milling as well as welding, plasma cutting, and waterjet cutting.

When do students use this lab?

The shop is available to support design and research projects at all levels, from first year undergraduate to PhD. The shop also helps support co-curricular activities, such as the SAE Baja SAE off-road vehicle.
