What Is Electrical and Computer Engineering?

Students in the Howard Lab Group pose for a photo.

Our program combines electrical engineering (using electricity, electronics and electromagnetism in product development, design and innovations) with computer engineering (the development of computer hardware and software).

A graphic image of a stack of books with a graduation cap on top.We strive to develop within our graduates a basic foundation of knowledge in seven fundamental areas of electrical and computer engineering:

  • Circuits and systems
  • Electromagnetics
  • Robotics
  • Microelectronics
  • Digital systems
  • Computer architecture
  • Signals and communications

Specializations

The flexibility of our undergraduate program also permits specialization in signals and communications; solid-state devices and microelectronics; computer engineering; robotics; and electromagnetic fields, waves, and devices.
