Ormachea Completes Postdoctoral Appointment

Photo of Juvenal OrmacheaDr. Juvenal Ormachea has completed his postdoctoral appointment in the Parker Lab. He will be moving to the the state of Washington and will join Verasonics, Inc. as a research scientist. Juve joined the lab as a PhD candidate from Ponfificia Universidad Católica del Perú and successfully defended his PhD thesis in January of 2020. He then began working as a postdoctoral associate in the lab. Juve has been a tremendously successful and productive PhD student and postdoctoral researcher. He will be missed, and we wish him the best of luck in his new career!

A paper co-authored by PhD students Jihye Baek and Sedigheh Poul, and Professor Kevin Parker titled "Clusters of ultrasound scattering parameters for the classification of steatotic and normal livers" has been published in Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. "Speckle Statistics of Biological Tissues in Optical Coherence Tomography"

A paper co-authored by MD/PhD student Gary Ge, Professor Kevin Parker, and Institute of Optics Professor Jannick Rolland titled "Speckle statistics of biological tissues in optical coherence tomography" has been published in Biomedical Optics Express. Parker Presents at ASA Acoustics in Focus

ASA logoProfessor Parker was invited to speak at Acoustics in Focus, the 180th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America, held virtually from June 8 - 10. He made two presentations, one titled "Consequences of power law scattering from soft tissues," and the other titled "H-scan analysis of subtle changes in scattering."

"Reverberant Elastography for the Elastic Characterization of Anisotropic Tissues"

A paper co-authored by former PhD student Dr. Fernando Zvietcovich and Professor Kevin Parker titled "Reverberant elastography for the elastic characterization of anisotropic tissues" has been published in the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics. "Diagnostic Performance of an Artificial Intelligence System in Breast Ultrasound"

March 5, 2021

A paper co-authored by PhD student Jhiye Baek and Professor Kevin Parker titled "Diagnostic performance of an artificial intelligence system in breast ultrasound" has been published in the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. The paper describes the results of a study of the performance of an artificial intelligence program designed to assist radiologists in the diagnosis of breast cancer, relative to measures obtained from conventional readings by radiologists. Co-authors include Avice O'Connell of the URMC Department of Imaging Sciences and collaborators at the Duke School of Medicine in Durham, NC (Sin-Ho Jung), the University Hospital in Palermo, Italy (Tommaso Bartolotta), and the Fondazione Istituto G. Giglio Hospital in Cefalù, Italy (Alessia Orlando). The abstract follows; more information can be found here.
