Echinocytes are morphologically altered red blood cells that appear to have uniform spicules throughout the cell membrane2. Echinocytosis is a common observation in blood from a variety of animal species. It is often overlooked as an artifact of preparation. Several disease processes and toxins have been found to alter the red blood cell membrane, leading to the formation of echinocytes. However, In this project it is uncleare if that is indeed the case.

Here are some of the micrographs that I took in this project with the secondary electron detector (SE2) and the in-lens detector. You can play the slideshow, or go through one micrograph at a time.
If you'll move the mouse over the images, captions will 'magically' appear.
