Two BME Students Win Undergraduate Research Initiative Award

Congratulations to two outstanding biomedical engineering students who have been recognized with the prestigious Undergraduate Research Initiative Award from River Campus Libraries. This annual award honors exceptional promise and achievement in the early stages of undergraduate research. Recipients are selected based on their ability to thoughtfully initiate, develop, and organize a research project that lays the foundation for a senior thesis, capstone experience, or independent scholarly endeavor.
Second prize was awarded to Elisa Espinola Hernandez '28 for her project, "Age-related Influences on Musculoskeletal Health: Biomechanical Evaluation of Intervertebral Disc Degeneration in a Drug-Induced menopause Model."
Third prize was presented to Kaylie McGuckin '28 for her project, "Evaluating the Effects of Carbon Dioxide on the Expansion of Neuro-Capillary Diameter."
Both students were recognized during a virtual award ceremony held earlier this semester, where faculty and peers gathered to celebrate their achievements. Their accomplishments reflect not only their individual dedication and intellectual curiosity, but also the strength of undergraduate research within the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
We congratulate Elisa and Kaylie on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to seeing their continued contributions on the field.
