The University of Rochester Department of Biomedical Engineering kicked off the fall semester by welcoming its newest undergraduate students at the annual BME Ice Cream Social on Friday, September 11, 2026. Hosted by the University’s student chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), the event offered the Class of 2030 a fun and informal introduction to the BME community.

Students, faculty, and members of BMES gathered in the Goergen Munnerlyn Atrium for an afternoon of ice cream and conversation. BME faculty traded their classrooms for the ice cream counter, donning aprons and serving scoops to the department’s newest students.

More than just a sweet start to the semester, the annual gathering gives first-year students an opportunity to meet their classmates, interact with faculty, and learn more about the people and community that will be part of their undergraduate experience.

The Ice Cream Social is one of the many ways Rochester BME brings students and faculty together and helps new students feel connected to the department from the beginning of their academic journey.
