Studio Optics – Changing Curriculum and Attitudes

Abstract:

Tasked with creating a new Physics major program in a time when it is also necessary to show the value of studying the pure sciences, our department has taken on initiatives to create an integrated curriculum in physics.  Included in this effort was the creation of a microscopy-based Studio Optics course.  In this talk, I’ll give some background about the course and how it came to fruition, an overview of the content and pedagogy, and examples of student work and feedback.
