Abstract:
The daguerreotype, the oldest form of image capture or photography, is also perhaps one of the earliest forms of nano engineering.  Characterized by its vivid, amazingly detailed image quality the daguerreotype is also a significant cultural heritage object.  Not surprisingly, it is an irreplaceable object that is both poorly understood and subject to irreversible deterioration.  In this talk I will describe work from an NSF funded project between the University of Rochester and George Eastman House International Center for Photography.  Collaborators include Ralph Wiegandt (GEH), Brian McIntyre (UR) and Emily Thompson (Clemson).

A short presentation by Brian McIntyre on the Nano Fabrication Facility including a live video tour of the various facilities be at the end of the Colloquium.
