Dr. Benjamín Castañeda has received national recognition from the Government of Peru for his transformative contributions to the technological innovation that have positively impacted the development of Peru.  The recognition was presented in July during a ceremony marking the Day of the Peruvian Inventor.  The national day was established earlier this year by the Peruvian Congress to highlight the country’s growing commitment to innovation and to honor individuals advancing progress through research, invention, and technology.

The award was conferred by INDECOPI (Instituto Nacional de Defensa de la Competencia y de la Protección de la Propiedad Intelectual), the national agency responsible for intellectual property rights and consumer protection in Peru. Dr. Castañeda was recognized for his impactful innovations that have significantly advanced technological progress in the country. Due to prior commitments, Dr. Castaneda was unable to attend the ceremony in person and his father graciously accepted the award on his behalf.

Dr. Castañeda's work continues to bridge science, technology, and societal advancement—making a lasting impact both in Peru and abroad.  Since joining the University of Rochester in fall 2024, Dr. Castañeda has founded the Global Health and Medical Devices Lab, strengthening ties between Rochester and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). He also launched a three-year collaboration focused on advancing ultrasound technologies and supporting faculty and student exchanges between the two institutions.
