Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Wins the 2006 Baker Award for Fuel Cell Research

(October 2006) Eric Thompson, a graduate student in the Department of Chemical Engineering, has been selected as the winner of the 2006 Bernard S. Baker Award for Fuel Cell Research, presented by the Fuel Cell Seminar and FuelCell Energy, Inc. Eric will be presented with the $1,000 award during the plenary session of the 2006 Fuel Cell Seminar at the Convention Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, November 14, 2006. Additionally he will receive $1000 for travel expenses to the 2006 Fuel Cell Seminar, where he is invited to present his research. Eric works full time at GM Fuel Cell Activities at nearby Honeoye Falls. His thesis work, supervised by Professor Jacob Jorne, deals with sub-freezing performance of PEM fuel cells for transportation.

(June 2006) Congratulations to Professors Yang and Yates for well-deserved promotions to Associate Professorship with unlimited tenure effective July 1, 2006. They joined the department in summer 2001, and have made significant contributions to our research and education programs. They have established themselves as leading figures in nanotechnology (Yang) and colloidal engineering (Yates). We wish them continuing success and future growth in their endeavors.
