Professor Köse is no stranger to the department. He earned his PhD in electrical and computer engineering at Rochester in 2012, spent nearly seven years at the University of South Florida, and returned to Rochester in 2019, becoming a full professor in 2024. His research covers on-chip power delivery and voltage regulation, hardware security for classical and quantum computing, superconducting electronics, and emerging computing architectures, supported over the years by NSF, DOE, DARPA, SRC, industry, and private philanthropy.

"This department made me the engineer I am, so stepping into this role means a lot to me," Professor Köse said. "I want us to keep doing research that matters and to give our students, undergraduate and graduate alike, an education they can build a career on. The field is moving quickly, and I would like us to be the ones setting the pace rather than catching up to it. We have the people and the ideas to do that, and I see my job as making sure they have what they need to succeed."

Professor Doyley, who led the department through a period of significant change, expressed confidence in the transition. "Selçuk is the right person for this at the right time," he said. "He thinks carefully, he listens, and he is not afraid to make a decision once he has heard people out. I am handing this over knowing the department is in steady hands." Professor Köse steps into the role with a clear sense of where he wants to take the department and a commitment to building on the foundation his predecessors have laid.
