mark beckMark Beck is primarily an experimentalist, but is also interested in theoretical questions in quantum optics and quantum information science. He is particularly interested in exploring ways to extract as much information as possible from quantum systems, typically photons. He has developed a number of undergraduate teaching laboratories that explore fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics, and these are described in his book, Quantum Mechanics: Theory and Experiment. Mark received his BS (1985) and PhD (1992) in Optics from the University of Rochester. He did post-doctoral research at the University of Oregon and taught for two years at Reed in the mid-90’s. He spent 22 teaching physics at Whitman College before rejoining the Reed Faculty in 2018.
