Abstract

In optics as well as in other areas of physics and engineering, abstract spaces composed of different system parameters allow visualizing fundamental laws and employing geometrical tricks. Here we discuss some examples that involve polarization, beam structure and the study of imaging and nonimaging optical systems.

 Miguel A. Alonso 

Miguel A. Alonso is a Professor at The Institute of Optics and Senior Scientist at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. He also holds an appointment at the Institut Fresnel and Centrale Méditerranée in Marseille, France. He is a Fellow of OPTICA and was the recipient of the 2023 SPIE G.G. Stokes Award. He has served as Associate Editor of Optics Express and Optica, Deputy Editor of Optics Express, and Editor-in-Chief of Optics Letters. His research is on various mathematical aspects of optics and physics.
